about

Tangled hair is never a good thing, unless you happen to be into rastafari or you are talking about the Kingston-based band of the same name. Emerging from the ashes of math-melody masters COLOUR, Tangled Hair began its life as vocalist and guitarist Alan Welsh's dissertation project. When ex-band mate James Trood was reeled in to play drums, he suggested he liked the songs enough to play them in front of discerning listeners. Bassist Alex Lloyd completed the line up shortly after, taking Tangled Hair from studio project to "actual band" and the trio have been playing their distinct blend of minimal indie pop tech ever since, sharing the stage with the likes of Adebisi Shank, The James Cleaver Quintet, Men and Geoff Farina in the process.

Tangled Hair's debut EP First was mixed by Tubelord's James Elliot-Field and released on a four-track DIY demo tape in January 2010. The year also saw the band appear at festivals such as Off The Cuff, become the first band to feature on the BSM 10 Collection, support label mates Tall Ships on the annual BSM Christmas tour and Welsh even became Tubelord's shortest-lived member with his stint as replacement vocalist on their UK tour in September.

Tangled Hair's second EP Apples was released digitally and on CD on 4th April 2011 via Big Scary Monsters Records. Since then the band have played a number of shows across the UK, released the two EPs together as an album in Japan, and plan to be back soon with new material.
